Fishnet Factory in Jaffna

30 April 2011: The Sri Lanka Government is planning to obtain Indian assistance to develop and expand a damaged fishnet factory in the Jaffna peninsula.

The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a proposal made by the Minister of Traditional Industries and Small Enterprise Development Douglas Devananda to revive the Fishnet Factory at Gurunagar in Jaffna, damaged during the three-decade long war. The government is to get Rs 15.2 crore financial assistance from India under its small Grant Assistance Program to develop the factory to uplift the fishing industry in the North.
