Germany assists for projects in conflict- affected provinces of Sri Lanka

19 December 2011: The government of Sri Lanka is to receive Euro 11.5 million grant assistance from the German government for the implementation of several development projects in Sri Lanka's conflict-affected Northern and Eastern provinces. The cabinet recently approves a proposal submitted by President Mahinda Rajapaksa in his capacity as the Minister of Finance and Planning to sign the Exchange of Notes with the Government of Germany. The grant assistance will be used to establish a Vocational Training Centre in Kilinochchi with a capacity to provide facilities for 400 students.

Additionally, Small and Medium Sector Development Projects which include Textile, Agribusiness, Food and Beverages, Tourism related industry, Livestock etc. in these areas will receive grant assistance.
