Jaffna University to get engineering faculty

3 March 2011: Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa has taken measures to establish an engineering faculty in University of Jaffna. The government is now having discussions with several foreign institutes in this regard.

University of Jaffna was established as a campus of the University of Sri Lanka in 1974 and it became an independent and autonomous university on January 01, 1979. It has eight faculties with fifty seven academic departments, several service and academic support units and centers, and a Campus at Vavuniya. About 7,000, mostly Tamil students receive higher education at the University located in the capital of the Northern Province.
