Japan aid for Bangladesh bridge
30 November 2010: The Japan Government is likely to will provide an additional $100 million (approx Rs 455 crore) to Bangladesh for the construction of a bridge over the Padma river.
The additional $100 million will take Japan’s total level of participation in the project to $400 million (approx Rs 1,820 crore). The Padma Multipurpose Bridge Project is a key communication link for Bangladesh.
Of the total funding of $2.40 billion (approx Rs 10.92 crore), the World Bank will provide $1.20 billion (approx Rs 5.46 crore), Asian Development Bank $550 million (approx Rs 2,297.75 crore) and the Abu Dhabi Fund of the UAE Government $30 million (approx Rs 136.5 crore) to implement the Padma Bridge Project.
