Japan extends financial aid to Sri Lanka for demining in the North

1 November 2011: The Japan Government has extended an additional US$ 650,000 (approx Rs 7 crore) grant aid for humanitarian demining in Sri Lanka's North.

The assistance is granted through a Sri Lankan Mine Action NGO called Delvon Assistance for Social Harmony Sri Lanka (DASH), to expedite the Sri Lankan government's efforts to free the war-torn land from mines. The project will cover mine clearance in the land stretch between Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu and benefit more than 2,000 of recent returnees to rebuild their homes and recommence their livelihood activities on the land cleared of mines.
