Japan grants funds for rural
development in Sri Lanka
29 December 2011: The government of Japan has granted US$
42,055 to aid a development project in Sri Lanka's rural
Ampara district. The Rs 78 million grant money will be used
to improve infrastructure facilities, agricultural
activities and living conditions as well as livelihood of
three villages in Uhana Divisional Secretariat (DS)
division.
Under the "Project for Improving Livelihood and Living
Environment of Communities in Uhana DS division, Ampara
District," seven tube wells, drinking water systems at two
remote schools will be constructed. The project will also
facilitate agricultural trainings and support the purchasing of
bee keeping tools for those engaged in the trade.
Peragamana Guild will implement the project that would
benefit around 170 families and 600 students and teachers. The
project, funded under the Grant Assistance Grassroots Human
Security Project scheme, expects to significantly improve the
lives of the communities.
