Korea provides funds for waste
management in Sri Lanka
29 December 2011: The Government of Korea has provided Rs
600 million assistance to improve waste management of the
country. The money will be utilised to build a
state-of-the-art waste storage in Dompe area in Gampaha
district. The Rs 90 million has been allocated to improve
the waste management in Kandy and Kurunegala cities in 2012
where waste has become a severe issue.
Under the grant assistance, measures will be taken to improve
compost production and the use of recycled waste in building
parks and other such places.Solid waste has become one of the
major issues in Sri Lankan urban and semi urban areas. In order
to solve this problem in a sustainable manner "Pilisaru"
National solid waste management project operating under Central
Environmental authority has funded the establishment of
composting yards for 70 local authorities island wide.
