Land port at Ramgarh to start functioning soon
27 January 2010: The 15th land port in Bangladesh on the frontier between Ramgarh under Khagrachhari of Bangladesh and Sabrum under Tripura state of India is likely to start functioning soon.
The business communities in Chittagong and in the north- eastern Indian state of Tripura have been demanding for opening a land port in the region to flourish business between both the counties, said sources in cross-border business communities.
The Indian government is also interested in opening the port as road communication between Sabrum and Chittagong port is comparatively shorter. India also proposed the Bangladesh Government to construct a permanent bridge over the Feni river between Ramgarh and Sabrum in 2002 to run the port expediently, the sources said.
