Makeover for A'pura city
21 July 2010: The National Heritage and Cultural Affairs Ministry, Sri Lanka, is planning to develop the Mahamevuna Park in Anuradhapura to preserve its historical glory.
One of the main objectives of this program is the conservation of this sacred site. Around 600 acre will come under the project. The Ministry will update the road vehicular within the city for the benefit of pilgrims and tourists as well as to facilitate control of vehicular traffic.
The Ministry has found that the stalls and vehicle parks mar the sanctity and pristine beauty as well as the archaeological value of the city. According to the new plan, the Ministry will remove these unplanned buildings in the sacred city.
Introduction of a novel garbage management system and installation of a modern street lighting system in the city are among the new proposals. According to the new plan, the authorities will protect the ancient and historical monuments in the city.
