Merchants Holdings International to construct container port in Sri Lanka
16 August 2011: Merchants Holdings International (CMHI) has finalized a deal to build and operate a container port in the Sri Lankan capital of Colombo.
The Company has signed a deal to invest more than US$500 million (approx Rs 2,200 crore) to build and operate a container port in Colombo. The port will be built in phases. Under phase I, a new terminal being built is scheduled to begin operations in early 2013.
Also the company is constructing the Hambanthota port complex - China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) and Sino Hydro Corporation.
