Solar system project to get ADB funds

4 June 2011: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has in principal agreed to provide financial support to Bangladesh for implementing a solar system project for generation of 500 MW power.

Now, other things will be worked out to implement the proposed project and the amount of fund will be determined on that basis. The project includes a solar panel-based system that includes solar irrigation pump; solar roof top in urban areas; and mini grids solar plants in rural area.

The plan needs about $3 billion (approx Rs 13,350 crore) investment of which it proposed for 60 percent capital fund, 20 percent long term soft loan and 20 percent investment by the government and by private sector. The plan also includes social impact project where solar power will be delivered to rural health centers; schools and other important institutions.
