Sri Lanka Meteorology Department eyes funds for modernization
19 February 2011: The Disaster Management Ministry of Sri Lanka is seeking funds from the government to upgrade the country's outdated Meteorology Department. The ministry will be submitting a cabinet paper seeking Rs. 1.2 billion to modernize the Meteorology Department.
The modernization programme is aimed at upgrading the standards of the Department to international levels. The funds are to be used mainly to purchase high tech equipment for the Department. The natural disasters that were experienced in the past have prompted to pay urgent attention to its modernization.
