Sri Lanka Pharmaceutical Corporation to plans to increase production capacity

28 November 2011: Sri Lanka's Ministry of Health has taken measures to increase the production capacity of medicinal drugs at the State Pharmaceutical Corporation. The government has reached an agreement with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for support for the expansion. The recently developed Chilaw Base Hospital, Minister of Health Maithreepala Sirisena has said that the production process will be expanded from next week. The government has reclaimed the provincial hospital and developed as a general hospital. The Minister has also instructed the officials to start a seven-year development plan to promote the services of the new Chilaw General Hospital.

The government recently received the approval from the Cabinet to set up a dedicated industrial zone for manufacturing of pharmaceutical products. A 48-acre block of land in Kurunegala has already been identified to set up the proposed manufacturing zone.
