Sri Lanka allocates funds for reservoirs

28 December 2010: The Sri Lanka Government has allocated Rs 40 crore to the Land Reclamation and Development Corporation (LRDC) to dig 10 new reservoirs in and around Colombo to prevent floods in the future.

Currently, work in Pelawatte, Thalawathugoda, Madiwela and Waters Edge premise is underway. The construction of the first flood water reservoir began in November 2010 in a state land of 17 acre at Rampalawatta, Pelawatta in Battaramulla. The LRDC is to dig five reservoirs under the first phase of the project. The reservoirs once completed are expected to store the rain water and prevent flooding.
