Sri Lanka establishes special court for Buddhist monks

20 December 2011 : Sri Lanka Government has decided to establish a separate court to deal with problems pertaining to Buddhist monks to uphold the respect for Maha Sangha and also for their convenience.

The Temples Act is to be amended to set up the new court. The Prime Minister said that cases filed in relation to this Act and cases pertaining to complaints of Buddhist monks are currently being heard through the General Court System. With the establishment of the new court, all such cases will be transferred to the new court.
