Sri Lanka in pact with China
4 January 2012: Sri Lanka will sign an agreement with China to construct a 350 mtrs high tower building in Colombo. The Lotus Tower Building and the Leisure Garden will be the tallest tower in South Asia and the 19th tallest tower in the world.The Sri Lankan cabinet recently approved the construction of this tower in a seven and half-acre land belonging to the Urban Development Authority at D.R. Wijewardena Mawatha. The multi-faceted tower will provide facilities for 50 television services, 50 broadcasting services and ten telecommunication providers.
The 11-storied structure will have a revolving restaurant on the fourth floor. A lotus flower segment that will have seven floors will be erected from the fifth floor. A reception hall with capacity of 1000 persons will be housed on the third floor. The construction of the lotus tower is to be completed in 30 months at a cost of US$ 100 million and it will be funded by EXIM Bank of the People's Republic of China.
