Sri Lanka inks MoU with Korea

25 January 2010: The Sri Lankan Government has signed an MoU with Korea to construct the Phase II of a proposed solar park.

The proposed grid connected 500kv solar power park is to be set up in Mirijjawila, in the Hambantota District. The government has signed an agreement with the Japan Government to build the Phase I of the solar park which is to provide to 400 kv of power at the same location.

With the completion of both phases the solar park is likely to have the full generation capacity of one MW of electricity, which will be connected to the national grid.

The Ceylon electricity Board (CEB) will purchase the power and the payments received by the Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority will be utilised to provide houses in the remotest villages where the grid connection could not be reached, with solar PV panels.
