Sri Lanka plans to open national zoo in April 2012
Sri Lanka has planned to open Pinnawela national zoo in April 2012. The phase I of new zoo established in Pinnawela will be opened in April 2012. The first stage of the Pinnawela zoo is constructed at a cost of Rs 60 million (approx Rs 294 crore) in a 48-acre land adjacent to the Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage will comprise only animals, birds and other fauna endemic to Sri Lanka.The zoo will have a special open section displaying the free-roaming Sri Lankan leopard.
Also, the plans are affot for the construction of phase II of the project. The complete zoo covers 100 acres is a Rs 250 million (approx Rs 1225 crore) investment of the state.
