Sri Lanka plans to upgrade expressway access roads
17 December 2011: Sri Lanka has got Asian Development Bank (ADB) aid to upgrade six access roads linking the newly opened southern expressway with the rest of the island's road network.
The ADB will give a loan of $ 85 million US dollars (approx Rs 934 crore) for the project to rehabilitate access roads to the Southern Expressway with the government providing 20.6 million dollars. These rehabilitation works are crucial to improve the connectivity of roads and to realize the full potential benefits from the southern expressway.These selected six road sections usually experience high traffic volume. Therefore, the rehabilitation of these road sections will facilitate easier access to the new expressway while improving the transport efficiency of the national highways network.
