Sri Lanka plans to use tar for road construction

5 March 2011: Sri Lanka Road Development Authority (RDA) that used only tar in major road constructions now turned its attention to use concrete for the major roads since it has been proved durable. Accordingly, the dilapidated A and B grade roads will be concreted and repaired.

The RDA has focused to put concrete and repair 600 kilometers of A and B grade roads. For this, the authority is to obtain a loan of Rs. 500 million from state banks. The Treasury is to provide a guarantee for the loan. Around 6,500 kilometers of major roads in the country are dilapidated and in need of urgent repair.
