Sri Lanka seeks funds from ADB
20 November 2010: The Sri Lanka Government is in parleys with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to obtain financial assistance to implement a project to develop water supply and sanitation infrastructure in the North as a part of the government's rehabilitation program.
The government is holding discussions with the ADB to obtain financial assistance of $ 90 million (approx Rs 405 crore) for the implementation of Jaffna and Kilinochchi Water Supply and Sanitation Project.
The project aims to rehabilitate, expand, and develop water and sanitation infrastructure, strengthen water resource management, and enhance implementation and management capacity of key institutions providing support for project management and implementation activities.
The project will supply 3,00,000 new water connections in the two districts and connect 20,000 households (80,000) persons in the Jaffna Municipal area to the sewer network, the government said.
