Sri Lanka to ink CEPA with India
8 March 2011: The Government of Sri Lanka is planning to sign the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) with India. The agreement is expected to be an extension of the existing Indo-Sri Lanka Free Trade Agreement (ISFTA). Although, it has been discussed between the two countries, in South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) summit in Colombo but is yet to be signed.
According to the Sri Lankan government India is the fourth largest investor in Sri Lanka with investments from some leading companies such as the state-run Indian Oil Corp, the Tata group, the Bharti group, Piramals, Life Insurance Corp, Ashok Leyland, Larsen and Toubro and the Taj Hotels.
