Sri Lanka to revoke misused permits of hydropower projects
11 April 2011: The Sri Lanka Government has decided to revoke the misused permits issued for small scale hydropower projects.
The government pointed out that some permits have not been used properly and expected development has not taken place. In some other cases the permit holders have illegally sold the permit to third parties.
The Ministry of Irrigation and Water Resources Management has so far issued 18 permits to build small scale hydropower projects. The Ministry has given the permit holders two weeks to submit reports on the progress of the projects.
