Sri Lanka to unveil Karadiyanaru Hospital
21 November 2011: 21 November 2011: The Unite States under the USAID's Office of Transition Initiatives (OTI) program in Sri Lanka has renovated the regional hospital in Karadiyanaru in Batticaloa district of the Eastern Province. The hospital renovated with three new buildings will be handed over to the Sri Lankan health authorities on November 22 by the U.S. Embassy Deputy Chief of Mission Ms. Valerie C. Fowler.
The USAID has renovated the administration building of the Karadiyanaru Divisional Hospital, the only hospital serving a population of 35,000 in Eravur Pattu division, and provided new furniture. The hospital had been severely damaged during the decades-long armed conflict in the North East. The DCM Ms. Fowler will make a speech to open the hospital in the presence of Minister of Health, Maithripala Sirisena, Chief Minister of the Eastern Provincial Council, Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan and Mission Director of USAID in Sri Lanka James F. Bednar.
