Sri Lanka's Sierra pipe maker to commence production by April

9 January 2012: The first batch of PVC (polyvinyl chloride) pipes produced by a new factory set up by Sierra Cables PLC will start rolling out by April 2012. The 165 million rupee factory is located in Gal Warusawe, in Athurugiriya. It will start producing HDPE (high density polyethelene) pipes in 2013, in the second phase of development of the factory.

The HDPE pipes can be used for sewerage and drinking water. Sierra Cables has a 70 percent stake in the pipe making unit, Sierra Industries (Pvt) Ltd. The balance stock is held by an unlisted related company, Sierra Holdings (Pvt) Limited.
