Stone laid for Buddhist Center

3 February 2010: Mahinda Rajapaksa, President of Sri Lanka, laid the foundation stone for the Sri Sambuddha Jayanthi International Buddhist Centre on Havelock Road at Nedimala, a suburb of capital Colombo, on 3 February 2010.

On completion, the Center will house the world's largest collection of Buddhist publications and literature. The complex with a 600-seat auditorium will function as a center to spread the Buddhist philosophy in the region and conduct dharma research activities. A Korean Temple is also to be built at the International Buddhist Centre at a cost of Rs 10 crore.
