Taiwanese relocating factories to Bangladesh
July 22, 2008: Taiwan companies are relocating their shoe, furniture and tent fabric manufacturing units to Bangladesh from China and Vietnam as the US and EU imposed anti-dumping duties on the two Asian countries and also due to soaring production costs. Bangladesh received over $200 million in FDI due to this relocation.
Trendex Industries, a furniture maker, invested around $55 million in April 2008 to set up a new plant at Karnaphuli EPZ in Chittagong. La Luna Shoes invested $ 22 million to establish a separate shoe machinery manufacturing plant in Karnaphuli EPZ.
