UNICEF constructs 35 schools in flood-hit Punjab
31 January 2012: About 4,500 children in three districts of southern Punjab Province are back in schools almost one and a half years after a record flood damaged the educational infrastructure in 2010.
Of which, the Dutch Embassy contributed to build 24 schools. OPEC chipped in US $250,000 (Rs. 1.23 crore) for seven schools. The Italian, Hungarian and Swedish governments underwrote four schools. The children had been attending Temporary Learning Centres so they wouldn’t lose a year of schooling. The schools incorporate the new Child Friendly Schooling approach.
