US to continue with GSP facility
13 July 2010: The United States of America has retained its Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) facility for the Bangladeshi sleeping bags for which it will enjoy zero tariffs while exporting to the US market.
The decision was taken as the USA Government dismissed a petition filed on 1 July 2010 by a US company seeking cancellation of the GSP facility for Bangladeshi sleeping bags while entering into US market.
It is mentionable that ‘Excel Outdoor’, an US company filed a petition to the United States Trade Representative (USTR) to identify sleeping bags as textile product and exclude the item from its GSP facility.
Following the petition, the USTR took initiative to review the GSP facility in January 2010.
