Various countries mull universities in Lanka

8 March 2011: The Ministry of Higher Education of Sri Lanka has received applications from 12 countries to set up foreign universities in the country. Previously private universities were not accepted by the Sri Lanka, but now it promotes the concept of expanding and liberalizing the higher education sector of the country.

The Education Ministry is planning to take action to amend the Higher Education Act to facilitate the establishment of private universities in the country. The countries which are looking forward to set up universities in Sri Lanka includes Australia, Japan, US, UK, China and India.
