Andaman & Nicobar Islands is a group of islands in the Bay of Bengal. Andaman
and Nicobar Islands together with the rest of India, became Independent on August
15th, 1947, and it was the Bengalis that occupied the island as a major population
group post Independence. Under the Government rehabilitation scheme, which started
as early as 1949, the group came there as 'Settlers'. However, majority of islands
are uninhabited being too small and with little or no water.
Project Investments in Andaman & Nicobar
According to the 42nd Quarterly Survey of Projects Investments as of 31
March 2011 conducted by ProjectsToday, the Union Territory had
54 projects worth Rs 479 crore in various stages of planning and implementation.
The project implementation ratio for this union territory
was at 66.18 per cent, as compared to the national average of 46.17 per cent.
