Assam is the largest populated state in north-eastern India. Due to the regional
and cultural differences the state has been divided several times over the past
three-four decades to separate out Nagaland, Meghalaya and Mizoram, with Arunachal
Pradesh being the last to be separated the part that remained is what we call Assam.
The State can be divided into two important physical regions – the Barak valley
and the Brahmaputra valley. Tea cultivation and processing is a major industry in
the state.
Projects Investment in Assam
According to the 42th Quarterly Survey of Projects Investment conducted by ProjectsToday, as of 31
March 2011, the state had 538 projects worth Rs 54,756 crore in various stages of planning and implementation.
The projects implementation ratio for the state was
59.64 per cent, as compared to the national average of 46.17 per cent.
