Jharkhand was formed on 1 November 2000, by bifurcation of Bihar. It accounts for
about 45 per cent of the geographical area of undivided Bihar and tribals constitute
nearly one-third of the state population.
The division has had a favourable impact on Jharkhand. Most of the mineral resources
such as iron ore and coal were bestowed to Jharkhand while most of the population
remained with residual Bihar. Jharkhand also had the royalty income from mining
activities and heavy industries such as Telco and Tisco.
Project Investments in Jharkhan
According to the 42nd Quarterly Survey of Projects Investment conducted by Projects
Today, as of 31 March 2011, the state had 1,072 projects worth Rs
242,081 crore
in various stages of planning and implementation.
The
implementation ratio stands at 27.40 per cent, as compared
to the national average of 46.17per cent.
