Karnataka, a state that was predominantly ruled by many a rulers and emperors was
first discovered in 1872. The Karnataka one sees today is a result of the States
Reorganisation Act of 1956. Formerly known as Mysore, the state was renamed Karnataka
in 1973. A large proportion of Karnataka's economy is agrarian based. Bangalore
exports 35% of India's software, and is a major base for public sector manufacturing
industries. Karnataka is the only exporter of sandalwood in India. The Kolar Gold
Fields now closed was once the only producer of gold in the country. Karnataka is
the seventh largest state in India in terms of area, ranks ninth in population.
Project Investments in Karnataka
Karnataka is one of the major investment destination to industrial and infrastructure
projects. According to the 42nd Quarterly Survey of Projects Investment conducted
by ProjectsToday, the state ranked sixth in terms of total
projects investment in the country. As of 31 Match 2011, the state had an outstanding investment
of Rs 379,482 crore in 3,340 projects under various stages of planning and implementation.
The state had an implementation ratio of 43.29% comparable to the national
average of 46.17%.
