Tamil Nadu ranks Eleventh in India in terms of area and sixth in terms of population.
Basically, the state is agrarian based, a leading producer of agricultural products.
It is the second largest producer of rice in the country next to Punjab.
The state has also lead in manufacturing industry. The wind mills in the state accounts
for 55 per cent of wind generated electricity in India. It also leads in cement
manufacturing. The state is also largest exporter of garments.
Project Investments in Tamil Nadu
According to the 42nd Quarterly Survey of Projects Investments conducted by ProjectsToday, Tamil Nadu stood
eighth with a share of 5.73 per cent of the total outstanding investments in the country. As of 31
March 2011, the state had 2,700 projects worth Rs 351,865 crore in various stages of planning and implementation.
The project implementation ratio observed for the state stood 61.63 per cent
compared to the national average of 46.17 per cent.
