Tripura situated in North East India was formerly an independent Tripuri Kingdom and was merged with India on 15th October 1949.

Agriculture and allied activities is the mainstay of Tripura. While, paddy is the principal crop, tea and rubber were main cash crops in the state. The state has been declared as the "Second Rubber Capital of India" by the Rubber Board, after Kerala.

Projects Investment

According to the 33rd Quarterly Survey of Projects Investment conducted by Projects Today, as of 31December 2008, Tripura had 83 projects worth Rs 5,968 crore in various stages of planning and implementation.
The state suffered from a very adverse implementation ratio of 13.17 per cent, which is again far below the national average of 41.44 per cent
