Tripura situated in North East India was formerly an independent Tripuri Kingdom and was merged with India on 15th October 1949.

Agriculture and allied activities is the mainstay of Tripura. While, paddy is the principal crop, tea and rubber were main cash crops in the state. The state has been declared as the "Second Rubber Capital of India" by the Rubber Board, after Kerala.

According to the 42nd Quarterly Survey of Projects Investment conducted by Projects Today, as of 31 March 2011, Tripura had 149 projects worth Rs 4,478 crore in various stages of planning and implementation.
