GVK Power & Infrastructure is waiting for coal supply for Phase-I Goindwal Sahib power plant in Punjab.
Phase-I of Goindwal Sahib power plant, with a capacity of 540 MW (2 x 270 MW), is estimated to cost Rs 3,200 crore. The two units of the project have already been tested on oil and it will start power generation as soon as it starts getting coal.
The company is likely to source coal from its captive mines -- Tokisud and Seregarha -- in Jharkhand. But these mines will be commissioned in the next two or three months, and the Ministry of Coal has so far refused to allocate dry fuel from other sources, which means it can't immediately operate the station though it is ready to start power generation.
The project requires critical mass of a six-month coal stock pile. For the purpose, the company had earlier requested the Ministry of Coal for an interim supply of 1,50,000 tonne of coal.
Further, GVK has no plans to sell the facility to NTPC.
