BoA clears 212 SEZ proposals

October 10, 2006: The Board of Approval for establishing Special Economic Zones (SEZ) in the country gave its nod for 26 formal clearances and 8 in-principle approvals. With this, the total number of formal approvals goes to 212 and in-principle approvals to 162.

The Board also considered 82 proposals for establishing SEZs in Assam, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh and one proposal from Madhya Pradesh. 

Among the approvals on Tuesday, the notable ones include two formal approvals for the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board — one for a food processing and related services SEZ and one pharmaceutical SEZ; Hinduja Invesment Pvt Ltd for a textile and apparel SEZ at Bangalore; formal approval to Shree Renuka Sugards Ltd in Belgaum district, Karnataka, for integrated sugar processing complex; formal approval to Parsvnath Developers Ltd for an IT/ITeS SEZ at Nedumbassery, Ernakaulam district, Kerala; and formal approval to TCG Urban Infrastructure Holdings Ltd for a bio-technology SEZ at Kochi.
