FDI crosses $20bn in 2007
April 4, 2008: The foreign direct investment (FDI) in India between April 2007 and February 2008 rose by a record 70 per cent to $20 billion. The FDI between April-February 2006-07 was $11.88 billion.
Also, the FDI received in February 2008 was an unprecedented $5.671 billion, an increase of 712 per cent over the same month last year. India has come a long way in attracting foreign investments, since the economy was liberalised in the ’90s. The FDI in 1991-92 was a mere $165 million. Pre-sently, the FDI is allowed in almost all the sectors.
