Govt drawing up 20-yr roadmap for ports
September 18, 2006: The union government is preparing a 20-yr roadmap for the development of major ports in the country. According to the Union shipping secretary, the proposed plan includes addition of 54 berths by 2012, that will double port capacity from 750 million tonnes to 1,500 million tonnes. Plans will also be carried out for the development of non-major ports in the country.
