Gujarat plans 400 MW from biomass waste

August 18, 2008: Gujarat Energy Development Agency that promotes renewable and green fuels has chalked out a plan to generate 400 MW of power in next few years through biomass.

Reliance Industries, Tata Chemicals, Essar group, Shapoorji Pallonji, Royal Energy and D1-BP Biofuels have chalked out massive plans to explore opportunities in jatropha cultivation as a biofuel. Gujarat government has earmarked 1,900,000 acres in the Narmada region for bio-fuels cultivation especially jathropa.

GEDA is also eyeing solar energy as a source of generating about 600-1,000 MW power in coming years.
