Madurai-Rameswaram road to be widened
August 19, 2008: The proposal to convert Madurai-Rameswaram road from two-lane to four-lane has been shelved. The existing Madurai-Rameswaram road will be widened from 7 mtrs to 10 mtrs to facilitate free flow of vehicles.
Tamil Nadu has decided to upgrade three State Highways such as Madurai-Thondi, Dindigul-Singampunari and Cuddalore-Chithoor into National Highways. A sum of Rs.13 crore was sanctioned to install passenger friendly facilities including sign boards, reflectors and others at important junctions of various roads. It would minimise road accidents.
