Andaman & Nicobar
Islands is a group of islands in the Bay of Bengal. Andaman
and Nicobar Islands together with the rest of India, became Independent on
August 15th, 1947, and it was the Bengalis that occupied the island as a
major population group post Independence. Under the Government rehabilitation
scheme, which started as early as 1949, the group came there as 'Settlers'.
However, majority of islands are uninhabited being too small and with
little or no water.
Project Investments
According to the 24th Quarterly Survey of Projects Investments
as of 30 September 2006 conducted by ProjectsToday, the Union Territory had 15 projects worth
Rs.210
crore in various stages of planning and implementation.
Almost the entire investment was by the private sector,
baring a single project by the public sector.
The latest project implementation ratio for the
union territory was a very poor 11.1 per cent, as compared to the national
average of 44.0 per cent.
