Chhattisgarh a
state in central India was formed when the sixteen Chhattisgarhi
speaking southeastern districts of Madhya Pradesh gained statehood
on November 1, 2000. It is the 10th largest state of India.
Chhattisgarh derives its name from 36 (Chattis is thirty-six in
Hindi and Garh is Fort) princely states in this region from very old
times. There is no single factor responsible for the creation of
Chhattisgarh. It is in fact a complex interplay of a combination of
factors that paved the path for a separate state
Projects Investment
According to the 24th Quarterly Survey of Projects Investment conducted by
Projects Today, as of 30 September 2006, the state had 570 projects worth
Rs.76,763 crore in various stages of planning and implementation.
The State exhibited a projects implementation ratio of
a 50.7 per cent, higher than the
national average of 44.0 per cent. The government had more stake as compared to the private sector
in the
state’s projects investment.
