Goa, an important tourist destination in India, is the second smallest state in the country. Previously a part of the Union Territory of Goa, Daman and Diu, Goa became the 25th state of the Indian Union on 30th May 1987. Goa has been divided into two districts viz., North and South and entire Goa comprises of 11 taluka. The languages most spoken here are konkani and Marathi.

Projects Investment

According to the 24th Quarterly Survey of Projects Investment conducted by Projects Today, as of 30 Sep 2006, Goa had 77 projects worth Rs.5,211 crore in various stages of planning and implementation. In contrast to the 19 per cent growth recorded at the national level, the state saw its outstanding investment decreasing by a one per cent. 

The state also suffered from a very adverse implementation ratio of 18.7 per cent, which is again far below the national average of 44.0 per cent

Bulk of the investment was in hospitality, aviation infrastructure (airports), shipping infrastructure (ports) and community welfare schemes.
