Haryana was separated from old Punjab on 1 November 1966. It occupies around
1.4 per cent of the country’s area but houses around 2 per cent of the
population. As a result, it has a very high population density of 477 persons
per sq.km. as against the national average of 324 persons per sq.km.
Haryana is one of the better industrialised states in India with a sound
manufacturing base. The parts state that are in close proximity to Delhi are
particularly well developed in industries.
Projects Investment in Haryana
According to the 24th Quarterly Survey of Projects Investment conducted by
Projects Today, as of 30 September 2006, the state had 517 projects worth
Rs.92,611
crore in various stages of planning and implementation. However the state
exhibited a projects implementation ratio of 35.26 per cent, which was lower than the
national average of 44.0 per cent.
The government had more stake as compared to the private sector
in the
state’s projects investment. While the government agencies are active in
petroleum refineries and petrochemicals, thermal based power and development of
industrial parks the private sector investment is concentrated in software parks
and transport equipment including automobiles and ancillaries.
