Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) comprises the plains (Jammu region) and the
valley (Srinagar). Agriculture tourism and handicrafts are the main economic
activities in the state. However, insurgency in the valley has had a very
serious impact on the state’s economy and lives of the people.
Projects Investment
According to the 24th Quarterly Survey of Projects Investment conducted by
Projects Today, as of 30 September 2006, the state had 166 projects worth
Rs.46,341
crore in various stages of planning and implementation. The latest project
implementation ratio of 57.0 per cent was favourably higher than the national
average of 44.0 per cent.
The state has abundant water resources and hence a major portion of the
investment is in the hydel power sector. The other important areas of investment
are roadways and railways projects.
