BELLARY POWER PROJECT
Eco-clearance for stage-III by March
PROJECTSTODAY: KARNATAKA Power Corporation Ltd's 500-mw Bellary power project (stage-III) is likely to receive environmental clearance by March 2009, following which work is likely to begin.
The project entails an investment of Rs 2,400 crore and will achieve financial closure within five months. A contractor is yet to be appointed for the project, though civil work has begun on stage-II at Kuditini in Bellary district of Karnataka. Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd is the turnkey contractor. Work on the project is expected to be completed by February 2011.
Stage-I has been implemented and completed at Kudatini in June 2008, at a cost of costing Rs 2,100 crore.
