HAL keen to develop Nashik Airport
ProjectsToday: Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd has initiated discussions with Mumbai International Airport Ltd, a GVK group company, for developing Nashik Airport in Maharashtra.
The airport, owned by HAL, is largely used for cargo services with only Kingfisher Airlines operating two commercial flights, connecting it with Mumbai. According to HAL, airline companies could explore the possibility of parking aircraft at Nashik Airport vis-a-vis other airports after considering logistics and cost factors.
The airport's cargo handling facilities too can be improved as the airport has the potential to handle nearly 9,000 tpa. HAL also wants to develop the facilities at the airport to enable it to handle diverted aircraft, as its proximity to Mumbai could be viable for landing.
