Land acquisition under way for TPC project

PROJECTSTODAY: TATA Power Company Ltd is currently in the process of acquiring land for its proposed 2,000-mw coal-based power plant at Naraj Marthapur in Cuttack, Orissa. The company requires at least 1,300 acres which it hopes to acquire by December 2008.

Tata Power Company Ltd, Indian Oil Corporation Ltd and Tata Steel Ltd are likely to float a joint venture company to execute the power project. Company officials confirmed that the public hearing would be held in August-September.

The power plant will cater to IOC (500 mw), Tata Steel (500 mw) and Gridco (250 mw). The balance power will be supplied to merchant plants. A PPA to this effect has been signed with Tata Steel and Gridco.
